Research: Review On My Favorite Student Video.

Review on N.E.R.D – Thrasher.

I really liked this video as it had a range of shots and looked good as a whole. The video had 9 clear base tracks. The lip syncing was good so it was clear that the performer had learnt the lyrics.

Throughout the video there are a range of mid shots for example, when the security guard is walking down the corridor there is a mid shot featured. The camera is also at a low angle while he is walking down the corridor. I believe that this was effective as it made him look taller, which indicated that he had some sort of a dominant role in the music video.

There are also many jump cuts in the video and they fitted the beat of the song. For example, when one of the performers was walking up the stairs about 3 jump cuts were used.

I think the video was an amplification/disjuncture type of video. It had elements of amplification in it as although the video followed the lyrics, for example the boss being angry at the worker at the desk, the performer says “every once in a while there is some asshole, giving you shit, cause something in his life won’t fold”. However it did have some disjuncture as the scene in the skate board park had nothing to do with the lyrics.

Throughout the video there were close up’s and mid shot’s of the main performer. This was effective as it was clear that he was the artist. Also his baggy clothing help emphasis the characteristics of a rapper. This was good as it made the video more realistic.

The editing as a whole was fast so that it suited the beat and song. The only times where the camera would stay on one person for a while was when the main performer was in the skate board park.
