1. To give fans visuals of the artist and the type of lifestyle theyre living (sometimes potrayed differently to how their actual life is).

2. For promotion, as their are many sites such as youtube, where videos significantly have more views and are viewed more by the public than normal songs without a video.

Summary - Music videos allow a wider range of people to listen and view the song, music videos can be played on TV, virally spread on internet and watched off Ipads, Ipods, phones etc. They attract the public eye more and are more interesting to watch. Sometimes they also make the song appear to be better than it was before the video was realeased.
