Researching Ancillary Product: Impact On Audience

Digipaks can also be used to influence the artists chosen audience. For example, on the album cover for TLC, I believe they was defiantly trying to show female power. On the digipak you can see TLC wearing baggy clothing (possibly to show that they are equal to men). TLC possibly also wanted their fans to be free and comfortable with themselves. At the time the album was released in 1992 many women didn't dress the way they did. TLC wore bright, vibrant and loads of baggy clothing in their music videos and many public appearances because they felt comfortable. And soon many women started to follow the trend.

The digipak reflects on this lifestyle as the font is funky, bright, and vibrant  The use of orange, green, yellow and red reflects on their bright clothing. TLC also used these conventions in their music videos and also spread messages through it as well. For instance, in the videos for the singles "Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg", "What About Your Friends" and "Hat 2 Da Back" one of the group members Left Eye is seen wearing sunglasses with a condom stuck on one of the lenses. This was done to represent safe sex as I believe their was a growing epidemic of H.I.V AIDS spreading.  As a result there is a connection between the music videos and digipaks.
