Research: Function Of A Music Video

A music video is a short clip, displaying a song through imagery. Music videos are produced for promotional and artistic purposes. They also tell a story depending on the nature of the song. Through music videos we can tell what kind of representation and also what type of genre is being displayed. As well as the song itself the music video also promotes the artist. For example, many artists become famous due to a particular music video. A perfect example of this is 'Thriller' by Michael Jackson.

"Thriller" is a song recorded by the late American recording artist Michael Jackson. It produced by Quincy Jones and is the seventh and final single from his sixth studio album of the same name. It was released on January 23, 1984 by Epic Records.  Michael Jackson tells a story with a beginning, middle and end.  From about 04:45minutes to 06:20minutes the main female character to shown with Micheal walking to the beat of the song. Also this showed a male gaze (Laura Mulvey) as the camera focused on her whole body. She was also wearing red high heels and a red shirt. The colour red connotes seduction as well as danger. Throughout the video however, there isn't  a lot of  fancy edits due to the clip being like as film rather than a music video.
